A hallmark of fiction

If you ever watched Star Trek, you know that the warp core ejector thing never worked when they really needed it. And of course, the reason for this was that if they just ejected the core and the danger was gone, they'd have no story. Or at least the story they'd be left with would be that the Enterprise would be adrift in space and that humming noise in the background would presumably be absent.



So this is telltale evidence of scripting. When there is a solution that should work but for some unexplained reason, it never works.
