Beatriz wants to live. A 22-year-old Salvadoran from a poor, rural community, Beatriz (a pseudonym to protect privacy) suffers from chronic and severe medical conditions. She is married and the mother of an infant. And she is roughly 18 weeks pregnant with an anencephalic fetus, a fetus without a brain that has no chance of survival after birth. She has lupus, aggravated by lupus nephritis (a kidney malfunction), which makes it very dangerous for her to be pregnant. Beatriz is now at high risk of dying as a result of her current pregnancy and needs an abortion to save her life. Doctors at the Maternity Hospital determined that the pregnancy is non-viable and life-threatening, and Beatriz requested that Salvadoran medical personnel perform an abortion, but a 1998 law in El Salvador prohibits all abortions, without exception. |

I am so angry. I used to live in this country, and I was anti-abortion until that point. When I saw the realities of illegal abortion. So much respecting "life."
If a lot of Republicans had their way, women would be facing this same life threatening dogma right here in the U.S.
Here's a petition being sent to the president and supreme court of El Salvador. Its not much, but it might help.
