And, that’s a wrap for Heather Morris .
Yeah, we sure as hell didn’t know it going into the episode, but last night’s season finale of Glee meant curtains for at least one original cast member of the hit FOX show. Though Brittany’s absence was noticeable in the weeks following the shooting episode, it was even MORE crystal clear that the final episode of the season was also to be HeMo’s swan song.
Oh sure, we found out who Catfish was (hint, your guess was spot on) and we had a surprise wedding, but really, the episode was mostly about saying goodbye to Heather Morris’ character … who no one knew was even leaving the show.
But let’s get the formalities out of the way….

Brittany Baby Bumps Out Of The Choir Room
Yeah, no amount of creative camera work could hide the fact that Heather Morris’ is quite with child, and since we already went down the pregnant teen route in season one, it looks like last night’s season finale was HeMo’s final episode on Glee. While the ending wasn’t as satisfying as anyone would’ve liked – no insane dance number to, you know, dance off to – her multiple, impromptu episodes of ‘Fondue For Two’ and heartbreaking final moments with Sam and Santana reminded us all the impact she’s had on the show, and how deeply she will be missed. To clarify, according to the writers, Brittany is actually a super genius who has been accepted to MIT on early admissions. Apparently, in Glee-verse, that means she doesn’t actually have to finish out her senior year to get started on her collegiate education. So, while no direct statement has come from either Ryan Murphy or HeMo, this development and her drawn out goodbyes pretty much conclude that Heather won’t be back in the choir room next year. Whether she swings by for visits like Amber Riley and Harry Shum Jr. remains to be seen. If we had to venture a guess, we imagine she’ll be taking more of the Dianna Agron approach to guest spots – few and far between. Hey, she’s having a baby! Whatcha gonna do! At least we all got one last Britanna moment, right?!
Catfish Caught!
And the identity of Ryder’s elusive cyber friend is… Unique, of course. No really, there wasn’t actually ANYONE else that it could be. Even at the beginning of the episode, when Marley covered for her friends, everyone was like, “Eh! Wrong! Thanks for playing caller!” But the reveal was a little anti-climatic at best. Because there were so many loose ends to wrap up, not a lot of time was spent on the fallout of Unique’s deception. We think there was a moment there where Ryder quit the club, but he came back at the ninth hour to perform at Regionals… only to announce again that he was leaving the club after their performance. Whether he’s headed for the door like HeMo remains to be seen; this may just be overdramatizing for next season. Speaking of which….
All's Well That Ends Well, Or Ends In A Cliffhanger
Due to Cory Monteith ’s recent stint in rehab, Lea Michele ’s character had very little to do in this episode. In fact, she showed up at the start for her final callback, belted out a Celine Dion tune, and then… she was gone! So, no telling if Rachel Berry will be saying, “Hello Gorgeous” eight times a week until next fall.
Will and Emma (or WEMMA, as the preachers call them) finally tied the knot at the end of the episode. No big affair, no huge dress or even music – just a small ceremony, in the choir room, with simple flowers and rings and the Glee club. So, the answer to your question is yes – Will and Emma don’t have any friends their own age. Not even Beiste or Sue was invited. However, the latter finally admitted to the identity of her baby daddy. It’s Michael Bolton. There, now you know. It kind of got glazed over, but better not to leave yet ANOTHER unanswered question for next year.
The New Directions won Regionals, beating out Jessica Sanchez and her team with ease. Basically, for those of you still with us, that means next season will follow the second half of the school year. So, yes, we’ll still be half in Lima, half in New York. But the pieces are very much in place to move as many of your favorite characters to the Big Apple as possible. Last week, we learned that Arite was accepted into the Brooklyn Movie Academy or something. This week, we once again find Blaine on the precipice of proposing to Kurt. His moment gets shafted when Wemma barges in with their surprise wedding, but in the final shot, you can see Blaine clearly is holding a jewelry box. The kind that holds a small band inside to give to your BF so that you can live happily ever after. But we won’t know Kurt’s answer… until the fall.
And that, dear friends and fellow Gleeks, is the end of season four. We leave you with this parting thought till next fall…
