The official Gmail app for iOS has been available since 2011, but up until now, links to Maps and other Google utilities have directed users to the browser rather than to the respective programs. A just-released update to Gmail for iOS lets you jump into Chrome, Google Maps, YouTube and other native programs directly from links in your inbox. Those who prefer to keep things browser-based, however, can turn off this new functionality via the app's setting menu. Version 2.2.7182 (granular, much?) also lets you sign out of a single Gmail account rather than having to sign out of them all -- a boon to those of us juggling work and personal identities. Don't want to trek it to Provo, Utah -- or Austin or Kansas City -- to get 1Gbps internet courtesy of Google Fiber? By the end of this year, you can venture Down Under to get comparable speeds courtesy of Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN). The wholesale price for the network's 1Gbps service will be AU$150 (about $155) per month, with an additional fee to be tacked on by ISPs. NBN will also roll out 250Mbps and 500Mbps services by December, naturally for a lower monthly cost. Sure, 1Gbps speeds may not be necessary for the average household, but leave it to Japan to make those numbers look positively puny with its recently launched service offering 2 Gbps down. Planning that next vacation around internet speeds might just be the way to go.

Two days ago, Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs reinforced what we already knew: Firefox OS will launch in four to five countries in Europe and South America by summer. Today, a newsletter from Spanish e-retailer Geeksphone fills in a few more details. According to the email, the Keon and Peak smartphones we saw at MWC will hit its site next week -- albeit as developer preview units. Still, Geeksphone says the two handsets "will be available for dispatch anywhere on earth." The lower-end Keon will cost €91 plus taxes, while the mid-range Peak will set you back €149. Just ahead of T-Mobile's event in New York City, we've noticed that the carrier has already listed the BlackBerry Z10 on its website. The smartphone is priced at $100 with a two-year contract, though the UnCarrier is also offering the BB Z10 for $532 up front. Notably, the handset's listing says it supports 4G LTE -- and we imagine we'll hear a good deal more about T-Mobile's network plans when the event kicks off in just a bit.

Microsoft's Xbox Music has just received an update that brings both performance improvements to Windows RT devices and some new functionality. Among the new features is a volume control that sets the app's volume independent of the system's volume. The update also brings the ability to automatically sync your music collection to the cloud and add songs from your collection to other devices running Xbox music. Finally, as you can see in the screen grab above, there's a new playing UI that displays all tracks from an album in addition to the song currently playing.
