Spotify now has in excess of 24 million active users, with more than 6 million paying subscribers

Three months after Spotify announced more than 20 million active users, five million of whom were on a paid plan, the music-streaming behemoth has today revealed its latest figures, showing 24 million active users…six million of whom pay.

Daniel Ek is due to officially announce these latest figures during his talk at SXSW in Texas later today, and the 1/4 ratio between paying/non-paying seems to be holding firm as the company grows its user base. In July last year, Spotify revealed 4 million paying users out of 15 million, so adding ten million to its total tally in eight months isn’t bad going. However, the real value is in the number who pay, a figure that’s risen by around 2 million since last summer.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of these latest numbers from around the world, but it’s probably fair to say that Spotify’s launch in the US in summer 2011 had a significant part to play in this growth spurt.

Spotify launched in Italy, Portugal and Poland last month, taking its number of markets to 20 – the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Ireland, Luxembourg, Italy, Poland and Portugal.
