Avoiding physical dependence to klonopin or xanax

I have recently been prescribed klonopin 0.5 twice a day for extreme anxiety issues, and already tried a list of other medications prior. I do NOT take it as prescribed because i do not want to develop a physical addiction, instead i take them no more than 3 times a week at a little higher dose which relieves the anxiety. My doctor said next month we can switch to xanax if the anxiety issues are not completely gone. Obviously the klonopin does its job to a certain point on the days that i take it, but not nearly as much as xanax. But xanax works for me for the rest of the day when i used to take it and completely wipes out anxiety unlike klonopin that only works half like xanax, but i never took it daily thus i never became tolerant or "dependent". I would think i could develop mild discomfort from taking the klonopin 3 times a week, because of its LONG HALF-LIFE, however with xanax it's shorter and out the system faster, WHICH IS BETTER TO AVOID PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE FROM ONLY USING 3 TIMES A WEEK, I WOULD THINK XANAX but i could be wrong. Thanks
