Heart transplant patient marries at San Diego hospital

Manuel Francisco, 46, didn’t want to wait a day longer than necessary to tie the knot with fiancee Diane Sobreo, despite the fact that he’s largely confined to a hospital bed. On Sunday the two officially married at San Diego’s Sharp Memorial Hospital, just weeks after Francisco underwent heart transplant surgery.

His transplant arrived on Feb. 26, much earlier than expected, after doctors diagnosed him with viral cardiomyopathy last August, according to NBC San Diego. The couple planned to wed as soon as possible once doctors put Francisco on the transplant list on Feb. 8.

Appearing at a ceremony surrounded by friends, family and hospital staff, Francisco kissed his new wife through a surgeon’s mask. “We made it through for each other, and with the support of friends and family and the Sharp hospital,” Sobreo told Fox 5 San Diego.
