The Germans already get a fairly decent winter break given the fact it’s @#$%ing cold there in the winter months, and according to Karl-Heinze Rummenigge, that’s enough. He’d like to see, considering the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, the summer break abolished and moved to a shorter timeframe in the winter.
Because screw you, footballers who want summer vacations. That’s why.
Ironically, Russia, in a bid to follow the path of everyone else, is in the process of taking their schedule the other way.
“From May to August is when we do not play football in Germany, although these are the months with the best weather. A change could be an advantage to us,” he told Die-Welt.
“The football family is united. Either pausing in January and February or in October and November, I can see in this model as an opportunity for the Bundesliga,” he explained.
“We would prefer to pause when the weather is bad here.”
This is kind of, at least in some parts of the world, an excellent idea. The summer months do have their advantages over the snow and frost of December, if both have their pros and cons.
But I prefer to focus on the part where a member of Bayern’s management, given their public image, wants to rid football of its summer vacations. Damn curmudgeons.
