On Tuesday’s edition of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow said that if you’ve been watching the case of Paul Kevin Curtis, the Elvis impersonator arrested and then released on charges of sending ricin letters to public figures, for its “wacky factor,” then Curtis’ press conference on being cleared of charges on Tuesday “did not disappoint.”
Maddow began the segment by saying that, among the deluge of news stories over the last week and a half, it’s easy to lose track of the fact that someone mailed letters containing the deadly neurotoxin ricin to the White House and to U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and to a Mississippi judge.
Singer and entertainer Paul Kevin Curtis was arrested and charged with sending the letters, then abruptly released on Tuesday. A second man, Everett Dutschke of Tupelo, Mississippi, is now under investigation.
Maddow then rolled footage of Curtis’ press conference.
“I would like to thank all my family, friends, and fans for their love and support over this past week,” said Curtis to a throng of reporters. “But most importantly I would like to thank Jesus Christ who has been and will always be my best friend, my bodyguard, my teacher, and my almighty judge.”
Calling his defense attorney Christi McCody an “amazing, beautiful, blond, blue-eyed angel,” Curtis thanked “divine intervention” for freeing him and made a special offer to the “ladies” of northeast Mississippi in lieu of payment to McCody.
“I am a licensed, certified reflexologist and I’ll start with foot massage therapy,” said Curtis. “She’ll be my first client and I’ll donate 100,000 hours to community service in northeast Mississippi to all you ladies who need foot massage therapy.”
