At the conclusion of his press conference Tuesday, President Barack Obama reiterated his support for gay NBA player Jason Collins, who came out Monday in a story for Sports Illustrated.

“I had a chance to talk to him yesterday,” Obama said, confirming Collins’ own account of a phone call between the two. “He seems like a terrific young man and I told him I couldn’t be prouder of him.”

Collins’ announcement made him the first athlete in one of the country’s most profitable sports leagues to come out while still competing. The president referenced the impending free agent center’s active status, saying Collins demonstrated that he was proud of his identity while still being “7 foot tall and [being able to] bang with” — basketball slang for jostling for position near the basket against other post players — a player like Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal, who retired in 2011, expressed his support for Collins on Twitter, writing that he was proud of him “for showing all of us what leadership looks like.”

“For a lot of young people out there who are gay or lesbian who are struggling with these issues to see a role model like that who’s not afraid, I think that’s a great thing,” Obama said. “And I think America should be proud that this is just one more step in this ongoing recognition that we treat everybody fairly.”

Collins told ABC News host George Stephanopoulos that Obama called him shortly after he made the announcement.

“It’s incredible. You just try to live an honest, genuine life and next thing you know you have the president calling you,” Collins said in the interview, which aired Tuesday on Good Morning America, adding that Obama “was incredibly supportive and he was proud of me. And said that this not only affected my life, but others going forward.”

Watch Obama’s comments regarding Collins, in video posted by Think Progress on Tuesday, below.

A 42-year-old Hampshire man received an out-of-court settlement from the U.K. discount chain 99p Stores after suffering chemical burns to his penis and testicles from using a cheap brand of shower gel. According to The Telegraph , Raymond Cuss of Gosport, Hampshire was left in agony after the liquid soap burned away the top layer of skin from his genitals.

“I had a shower to freshen up when I got home from work and suffered an horrendous reaction,” Cuss said. “When I stepped out of the shower and looked down at my groin I could see I had been burned.”

The flesh of the area glowed bright, angry red and was profoundly irritated, he said, beginning weeks of painful recovery. As the area scabbed and slowly healed, the sensation of fabric on the irritated area was almost more, Cuss said, than he could bear.

“I was horrified and scared I may have suffered permanent damage,” he said. “As the area dried, I was left in incredible pain, with a burning sensation. I had trouble sleeping, and could not lie on my front because it was far too painful.”

Because he is self-employed, Cuss had no choice but to keep working and “battle through the pain.”

“I had tears in my eyes when pulling on my boxer shorts,” he said, “and if any material simply brushed the area I almost doubled over in pain. I grimaced with every move.”

99p Stores refused to admit liability, claiming that chemicals from Cuss’ work may have interacted with the Dettol-branded shower gel to cause the burns. After a lengthy legal battle, the firm agreed to pay Cuss £1,000 (about $1,600 USD) before the case could go to court.

A spokesperson for Reckitt Benckiser, the company that makes Dettol products in the U.K., said that the shower gel was not British in origin. “A review of the product packaging identified it as most likely a product originally made for the Korean market and imported as a grey market product.”

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate predictive and prognostic significance of microtubule-associated protein Tau in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients treated with paclitaxel and platinum-based chemotherapy. Methods: 74 patients with EOC (stage I-IV) who underwent cytoreductive surgery followed by standard paclitaxel/platinum chemotherapy were included in the retrospective analysis. Their formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens were immunohistochemically stained for Tau protein, using semi-quantitative DAKO test. Tau expression was acknowledged as negative (0 and 1+) or positive (2+ and 3+). The correlation between Tau expression, progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) was evaluated. Statistical analysis included Kaplan-Meyer estimator, long rank test, Mann Whitney test and Cox proportional hazards model. Results: 25.7% (19/74) and 74.3% (55/74) of the patients were classified as Tau-negative and Tau-positive, respectively. Median PFS was 28.7 months for Tau-negative group and 15.9 months for Tau-positive group (p=0.0355). In the univariate analysis 3-year OS in Tau-negative and Tau-positive groups was 80.2% and 52.4%, respectively (p = 0.0198). Low expression of protein Tau was associated with better OS, whereas an advanced stage at diagnosis, suboptimal surgery, serous histological type and resistance to first line chemotherapy were each correlated with worse OS (p<0,05). In multivariate analysis only resistance to first line chemotherapy remained significant (HR 22.59; 95%CI, 8.71-58.55; p <0.0001). Conclusions: Negative tau protein seems to be both good prognostic factor and a predictor of response to paclitaxel/platinum-based chemotherapy in EOC patients.

Awwww!!!

Kanye West sure knows how to treat his woman right!

The rapper ordered a private jet to whisk his soon-to-be babymama, Kim Kardashian , away from her stressful Grecian family vacay for a romantic Parisian babymoon.

A source dished:

“The plane flew to Paris and now they’re spending more alone time there together.”

Isn't that just adorbzies??!

We're happy the twosome are spending as much time alone as they can together because even if they DO call Paris home for a bit, times will change when that belly finally pops.

Once baby Kimye arrives, champagne under the Eiffel Tower and spontaneous Parisian shopping sprees will be a thing of the past!

THE FRESH FACE: SAM ROLLINSON

The latest segment in CR’s ongoing series profiling fashion’s rising stars

Photography Anthony Maule

Above: Sam Rollinson wears Top, pants, and fur shoes Céline

For her debut season, Sam Rollinson earned a coveted spot as a Balenciaga Spring 2013 runway exclusive (which also happened to be the last collection by Nicolas Ghesquière). For Fall 2013, things only got better. “Doing so many shows last season was very unexpected,” says Rollinson. It was one for the books, indeed. The catwalker from Yorkshire appeared in 64 Fall 2013 shows, including Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Valentino. When she’s not on the runway or shooting ad campaigns (she’s currently starring in the Balenciaga Spring campaign), the Brit (known for her razor sharp cheekbones and chic ‘do ) likes to hone her culinary talents. “I really like baking,” she admits. Here, Rollinson gives us a taste of her world.

FIRST LOOK “My first memory of fashion? Wearing cute party dresses when I was little.”

CATWALK DEBUT “Bora Aksu. I opened the show and I was pretty nervous!”

SPRING PICKS “I want to buy a new pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, perfect for wearing on a sunny day.”

ROLE MODELS “I admire all successful models as role models, ones that have been on the scene for a while and are still brilliant and in-demand.”

TOP TIP “On catwalk strutting: Don’t think about it too much. It’s easy to over complicate something as simple as walking when you know hundreds of people will be watching you.”

BEAUTY BAG “I wouldn’t call it a trick, but I put lip balm on religiously.”

Gov. Bob in happier times!

This seems like such small beans compared to the crimes of the bankers who crashed the world's economy and bled it dry. On the other hand, it is wingnut Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, one of the "new faces" of the Republican party, so we can enjoy watching this particular sideshow:

FBI agents are conducting interviews about the relationship between Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, his wife, Maureen, and a major campaign donor who paid for the food at the wedding of the governor’s daughter, according to four people familiar with the questioning.

The agents have been asking associates of the McDonnells about gifts provided to the family by Star Scientific chief executive Jonnie R. Williams Sr. and actions the Republican governor and his wife have taken that may have boosted the company, the people said.

Among the topics being explored, they said, is the $15,000 catering bill that Williams paid for the 2011 wedding of McDonnell’s daughter at Virginia’s historic Executive Mansion. But questions have extended to other, previously undisclosed gifts from Williams to Maureen McDonnell as well, they said.

The interviews, at which Virginia State Police investigators were present, began in recent months as an outgrowth of a federal investigation into securities transactions involving Star Scientific, which produces a dietary supplement called Anatabloc. The company disclosed that probe in a regulatory filing last month, saying it had received subpoenas from the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Now, federal officials are trying to determine whether to expand that investigation into a broader look at whether McDonnell or his administration took any action to benefit Star Scientific in exchange for monetary or other benefits, according to the four people familiar with the interviews. It is unclear whether the probe will be broadened.

U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride declined to comment, as did spokespeople for the FBI’s Richmond division and the state police.

Tucker Martin, a spokesman for McDonnell, a possible 2016 presidential contender, said, “It is the policy of the governor’s office to not comment on any possible investigations.”

In case you think Lindsay Lohan isn’t checking into rehab, she’s going to prove she’s doing it this time...

...with a blog!

We’re sure LiLo’s rehab stay will be plenty inneresting, and this time around, we won’t have to just wonder what's going on.

The redheaded queen of legal dramz is working out a deal that would have her assistant blogging ALL about her rehab stay for Celebuzz!

LiLo will spend her 90 days in rehab focused on getting healthy, and once that pesky task is done, she will begin revealing all the JUICY deets through a blog that would cover what she learned.

So...does that mean she’ll cover how to break out of rehab? Or how to get Adderall delivered there?

We kid, we kid!

But don't get your hopes up yet because this deal, like a few of LiLo’s business deals, might fall apart as Celebuzz editor A.J. Daulerio commented:

“I’m still waiting for the official grooming session.”

Ahhh, the waiting game!

LiLo’s fave game!

Good luck getting Lindsay’s blog started...but when it does begin, don't hold your breath for it to be turned in on time!

Springtime in the Bay of Biscay, off the coast of France, as in most places, is a season of abundant growth. On April 20, 2013, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured this true-color image of the dynamic growth of a springtime phytoplankton bloom. The swirling colors indicate the presence of vast numbers of phytoplankton – tiny plant-like microorganisms that live in both fresh and salt water. Although these organisms live year-round in the Bay of Biscay, it is only when conditions are right that explosive blooms occur. In spring, the lengthening sunlight, the increased nutrient load swept into the Bay from ocean currents and from snowmelt carried by freshwater rivers, combined with warming waters create the perfect conditions to spur phytoplankton in to tremendous growth. The result is a swirling, multi-hued discoloration that can be easily seen from space. Each year, typically from March through April, such blooms occur in the Bay of Biscay. By May, however, conditions are not as favorable and the blooms fade, then disappear. Image Credit: NASA GSFC

Gentlemen, put down the razors. Put them down and back away. For once, there is good news about facial hair.

A study in the May edition of the journal Evolution & Human Behavior finds that, among a test group of 351 women and 177 heterosexual men shown a series of photos of guys at four stages of bearding — clean-shaven, light stubble, heavy stubble and fully beaded — images showing heavy stubble were perceived to be the most attractive.

That’s not the only good news for facial hair aficionados in this study, either.

Researchers at the University of New South Wales also looked at factors that could impact perception, like fertility and the use of hormonal birth control, and found found that women perceive facial hair to be most attractive during the most fertile days of their menstrual cycle.

It’s not all bad news for the clean-shaven, however. Dudes with no facial hair at all generally rated on par with fully bearded men, researchers noted.

However, the more masculine-looking mane still has an advantage, they found. Full-bearded men “may be perceived as better fathers who could protect and invest in offspring,” researchers wrote.

Although the public stigma of whiskers remains — famously headlined by The New York Times as: “Got a Beard? Don’t Bother to Run” — at least the bristly have this much to console them: No matter how you look at this study’s results, for once it’s advantage, beard.

The folks at the recently-announced Bearded Entrepreneurs for the Advancement of a Responsible Democracy PAC (BEARD PAC) are sure to be thrilled.

“Instead of deep, across-the-board cuts in many important investment programs, ranging from infrastructure to research and development, we need to protect those initiatives while adjusting our social welfare programs to live within our means and protect the truly needy,” – Steve Rattner, making the kind of sense the current GOP doesn’t want to understand.

There are all sorts of arguments to be made about if and whether a Grand Bargain on entitlements, defense and taxes is possible, given the near-pathological refusal of the GOP to raise any serious revenue. But my fear is that it is precisely the failure to come close to the broad Bowles-Simpson framework that has imposed the ridiculously crude sequester that has clearly boomeranged on Obama – and made recovery much weaker. We can all enjoy hindsight, but I wonder if Obama had actually embraced the full Bowles-Simpson when it came out, broke with his 042913austerity11 party, and ran for re-election on it, he wouldn’t be in a much stronger position than he is today. This is his mistake – but not his fault, if that distinction makes any sense. It’s his mistake because he lacked the daring to grasp Bowles-Simpson when it could have mattered; but it is not his fault that even if he had done the right thing, the GOP (and the Democratic base) would have turned around and accused him of slashing entitlements, or raising taxes, and success may have been as elusive as it turned out to be, but include his humiliation.

What’s left is a gnawing sense that there is no functioning rational government in Washington. Obama may not want this, and may not be primarily responsible for this, but it will stick to him, as it already has with the younger generation. Many Democrats hated Bowles-Simpson; but they may look back one day and realize it was essential to getting government back from effective permanent bankruptcy to do the things it truly must do – infrastructure, research, education. Maybe the sequester’s grim onslaught – and its effect on current growth and defense spending – will force Washington’s hand. But the private sector is still chugging along sufficiently not to force a crisis (see chart from Pethokoukis) – and after Obama caved so swiftly on the FAA, I get the sinking feeling that the rank and harmful partisanship of today’s politics will not end under his watch. That hope, it may turn out, was too audacious.

Background: There currently exists no data on birth defects from population-based studies in Vietnam. Our study's aim was to assess external birth defect (EBD) prevalence among live newborns in Binh Thuan Province in Vietnam with the help of health workers at all levels of the health system. Methods: A 2-month training session for 452 health professionals (HP) practicing delivery care in 127 Commune Health Stations (CHS) and in 12 provincial or district hospitals (DH) was setup in 2006. After a successful 6-month pilot study, a one-year registry of EBDs was established in 2008. All live newborns were screened for EBDs within 24 hours after birth in all DH obstetric departments and in all CHSs. Trained local HPs collected information by filling out a predesigned form and by photographing the affected newborn. EBDs were coded using the International Classification of Diseases system-10, Clinical Modification. The study was repeated in 2010. Results: Throughout 2010, out of a total of 13,954 newborns, 84 cases with one or more EBDs were reported, representing an overall prevalence rate of 60.2 per 10,000 live births. The most common groups of EBDs were limbs (27.2/10,000), orofacial clefts (20.1/10,000) and the central nervous system (7.9/10,000). Conclusions: This first population-based study in Vietnam, which required coordination efforts at the local level, provides baseline prevalences of external birth defects. Data on EBDs from this study in southern Vietnam may be useful for setting up a regional population-based registry of birth defects in Vietnam.

Background: Physical and mental function are strong indicators of disability and mortality. OEF/OIF Veterans returning from deployment have been found to have poorer function than soldiers who have not deployed; however the reasons for this are unknown. Methods: A prospective cohort of 790 soldiers was assessed both pre- and immediately after deployment to determine predictors of physical and mental function after war. Results: On average, OEF/OIF Veterans showed significant declines in both physical (t=6.65, p<.0001) and mental function (t=7.11, p<.0001). After controlling for pre-deployment function, poorer physical function after deployment was associated with older age, more physical symptoms, blunted systolic blood pressure reactivity and being injured. After controlling for pre-deployment function, poorer mental function after deployment was associated with younger age, lower social desirability, lower social support, greater physical symptoms and greater PTSD symptoms. Conclusions: Combat deployment was associated with an immediate decline in both mental and physical function. The relationship of combat deployment to function is complex and influenced by demographic, psychosocial, physiological and experiential factors. Social support and physical symptoms emerged as potentially modifiable factors.

Background: The patterns of health service use by rural and remote residents are poorly understood and under-represented in national surveys. This paper examines professional and non-professional service use for mental health problems in rural and remote communities in Australia. Methods: A stratified random sample of adults was drawn from non-metropolitan regions of New South Wales, Australia as part of a longitudinal population-based cohort. One-quarter (27.7%) of the respondents were from remote or very remote regions. The socio-demographic, health status and service utilization (professional and non-professional) characteristics of 2150 community dwelling residents are described. Hierarchical logistic regressions were used to identify cross-sectional associations between socio-demographic, health status and professional and non-professional health service utilization variables. Results: The overall rate of professional contacts for mental health problems during the previous 12 months (17%) in this rural population exceeded the national rate (11.9%). Rates for psychologists and psychiatrists were similar but rates for GPs were higher (12% vs. 8.1%). Non-professional contact rates were 12%. Higher levels of help seeking were associated with the absence of a partner, poorer finances, severity of mental health problems, and higher levels of adversity. Remoteness was associated with lower utilization of non-professional support. A Provisional Service Need Index was devised, and it demonstrated a broad dose--response relationship between severity of mental health problems and the likelihood of seeking any professional or non-professional help. Nevertheless, 47% of those with estimated high service need had no contact with professional services. Conclusions: An examination of self-reported patterns of professional and non-professional service use for mental health problems in a rural community cohort revealed relatively higher rates of general practitioner attendance for such problems compared with data from metropolitan centres. Using a measure of Provisional Service Need those with greater needs were more likely to access specialist services, even in remote regions, although a substantial proportion of those with the highest service need sought no professional help. Geographic and financial barriers to service use were identified and perception of service adequacy was relatively low, especially among those with the highest levels of distress and greatest adversity.

Background: Artemisinin-based fixed dose combination (FDC) products are recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) as a first-line treatment. However, the current artemisinin FDC products, such as beta-artemether and lumefantrine, are inherently unstable and require controlled distribution and storage conditions, which are not always available in resource-limited settings. Moreover, quality control is hampered by lack of suitable analytical methods. Thus, there is a need for a rapid and simple, but stability-indicating method for the simultaneous assay of beta-artemether and lumefantrine FDC products. Methods: Three reversed-phase fused-core HPLC columns (Halo RP-Amide, Halo C18 and Halo Phenyl-hexyl), all thermostated at 30 [degree sign]C, were evaluated. beta-artemether and lumefantrine (unstressed and stressed), and reference-related impurities were injected and chromatographic parameters were assessed. Optimal chromatographic parameters were obtained using Halo RP-Amide column and an isocratic mobile phase composed of acetonitrile and 1mM phosphate buffer pH 3.0 (52:48; V/V) at a flow of 1.0 ml/min and 3 mul injection volume. Quantification was performed at 210 nm and 335 nm for beta-artemether and for lumefantrine, respectively. In-silico toxicological evaluation of the related impurities was made using Derek Nexus v2.0(R). Results: Both beta-artemether and lumefantrine were separated from each other as well as from the specified and unspecified related impurities including degradants. A complete chromatographic run only took four minutes. Evaluation of the method, including a Plackett-Burman robustness verification within analytical QbD-principles, and real-life samples showed the method is suitable for quantitative assay purposes of both active pharmaceutical ingredients, with a mean recovery relative standard deviation (+/- RSD) of 99.7 % (+/- 0.7%) for beta-artemether and 99.7 % (+/- 0.6%) for lumefantrine. All identified beta-artemether-related impurities were predicted in Derek Nexus v2.0(R) to have toxicity risks similar to beta-artemether active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) itself. Conclusions: A rapid, robust, precise and accurate stability-indicating, quantitative fused-core isocratic HPLC method was developed for simultaneous assay of beta-artemether and lumefantrine. This method can be applied in the routine regulatory quality control of FDC products. The in-silico toxicological investigation using Derek Nexus(R) indicated that the overall toxicity risk for beta-artemether-related impurities is comparable to that of beta-artemether API.

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and multi-protein complexes perform central roles in the cellular systems of all living organisms. In humans, disruptions of the normal patterns of PPIs and protein complexes can be causative or indicative of a disease state. Recent developments in the biological applications of mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics have expanded the horizon for the application of systematic large-scale mapping of physical interactions to probe disease mechanisms. In this review, we examine the application of MS-based approaches for the experimental analysis of PPI networks and protein complexes, focusing on the different model systems (including human cells) used to study the molecular basis of common diseases such as cancer, cardiomyopathies, diabetes, microbial infections, and genetic and neurodegenerative disorders.

Background: Most of the institutional and research information in the biomedical domain is available in the form of English text. Even in countries where English is an official language, such as the United States, language can be a barrier for accessing biomedical information for non-native speakers. Recent progress in machine translation suggests that this technique could help make English texts accessible to speakers of other languages. However, the lack of adequate specialized corpora needed to train statistical models currently limits the quality of automatic translations in the biomedical domain. Results: We show how a large-sized parallel corpus can automatically be obtained for the biomedical domain, using the MEDLINE database. The corpus generated in this work comprises article titles obtained from MEDLINE and abstract text automatically retrieved from journal websites, which substantially extends the corpora used in previous work. After assessing the quality of the corpus for two language pairs (English/French and English/Spanish) we use the Moses package to train a statistical machine translation model that outperforms previous models for automatic translation of biomedical text. Conclusions: We have built translation data sets in the biomedical domain that can easily be extended to other languages available in MEDLINE. These sets can successfully be applied to train statistical machine translation models. While further progress should be made by incorporating out-of-domain corpora and domain-specific lexicons, we believe that this work improves the automatic translation of biomedical texts.

Federal officials have confirmed that female DNA and separate fingerprints were found on the pressure cooker bomb involved in the Boston Marathon attacks. While authorities are looking into the DNA investigation, agents arrived at the Rhode Island home of Katherine Russell -- Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s widow -- to gather a DNA sample from her.

The widow has insisted that she was left in the dark about her husband’s and brother-in-law’s plans, and while authorities are not suspicious of a larger terrorist group involved, they have not yet ruled out that others were not in the know. Katherine’s lawyer, Amato A. DeLuca, wrote via email yesterday:

“We want to state what we stated before: Katie continues to assist in the investigation in any way that she can.”

It is being reported that fingerprint samples have also been taken from several other people.

We hope the investigation is conclusive.

Are Mystique and The Beast fusing their romantic forces once more?! Is Jennifer Lawrence hungering to be the victor of Nicholas Hoult's heart?!

The Hunger Games ass-kicker and her ex-boyfriend Nicholas ended their two year relationship in January because they had "grown apart", but it seems like the youngsters COULD potentially be interlocking intimate parts again, as they were both seen leaving LA restaurant The Little Door after eating together!

The pair were spotted sneaking out the restaurant's back entrance, and while they weren't holding hands or anything, they DID both hop into Jennifer's car before she sped off into the night.

Now, obviously the duo could have simply been catching up -- they are about to start working on the X Men sequel together -- plus, Jennifer was carrying a copy of Anna Karenina on the "date" which makes us think the encounter was NOT meant to be romantic...

But perhaps their love flame was rekindled over dinner? Maybe all that wedding dress shopping was making Jenny Jen yearn for her past relationship!

We all know that Amanda Bynes has a crush on Drake and wants him to do unspeakable things to her lady parts, but a couple of tweets she posted recently have us a little confused on where she stands with him!

The actress took to Twitter and showed a little more love to the Canadian rapper, but used an interesting choice of words when describing him, writing:

Loving far apart eyes @draketwitpic.com/cmzggb

— Amanda Bynes (@AmandaBynes) April 30, 2013

Talk about a backhanded compliment! Where the hell did that come from?!

Amanda then went on to retweet messages from followers who also made fun of Drake’s appearance before posting another picture that showed him next to her fellow What I Like About You actor Nick Zano, saying:

Hot to the left and Ugly @drake to the right twitpic.com/cn1np1

— Amanda Bynes (@AmandaBynes) April 30, 2013

Hmmmm. It seems as though "ugly" has been her word of choice lately, but we’re kind of getting mixed signals here!

So which is it, Amanda? Do you love Drake, or do you think he’s ugly?? You might wanna figure that out in case he ever decides to take you up on the murdering-your-vagina offer! Ha!

The atoms that make up ordinary matter fall down, so do antimatter atoms fall up? Do they experience gravity the same way as ordinary atoms, or is there such a thing as antigravity? Recent results, which measured the ratio of antihydrogen's unknown gravitational mass to its known inertial mass, did not settle the matter. Far from it. If an antihydrogen atom falls downward, its gravitational mass is no more than 110 times greater than its inertial mass. If it falls upward, its gravitational mass is at most 65 times greater. What the results do show is that measuring antimatter gravity is possible, using an experimental method that points toward much greater precision in future.

Skype adds video voicemail preview to Windows desktop beta, Windows 8 users left hanging on the telephone

You'd think that with Skype firmly under Microsoft's control, the service would roll out new features to Windows first. Bizarrely, though, that's not the case. Skype's video voicemail feature, which previously soft launched on Android, iOS and OS X, is now coming to Windows 7 and up (a Windows 8 version should be forthcoming), hitting the company's end of April promise. The feature, still labeled a preview, works exactly as advertised, letting users record short video clips that can be sent to and viewed by any contact regardless of their OS. There's one caveat though: you'll need to install Skype 6.5 beta for Windows desktop and Flash to test it out. It's just a risk your vainglorious self will have to take for modernity.

A message sent to police in Montgomery County, Virginia on Saturday caused a SWAT team to descend upon a home owned by CNN host Wolf Blitzer, under the impression that someone at the residence had just been shot.

The report turned out to not be true, according to The Washington Post , which noted that Blitzer was not home at the time. Police were already suspicious of the message when they arrived on the scene, the Post noted, having received a text message sent through a phone provider’s emergency relay service.

The case is yet another instance of the growing trend known as “swatting,” where authorities are called to someone’s home under false pretenses. Other recent notable victims of swatting include Fox News contributor Erik Erickson, television personality Ryan Seacrest and talk show host Russell Brand, along with former Washington Post tech columnist Brian Krebs.

Police said they are still trying to determine who sent the message about a shooting at Blitzer’s home. “Wolf is fine,” a CNN spokesperson reportedly said. “That’s what matters most.”
