Microsoft completes Hotmail migration to Outlook.com, claims 400m active accounts

Microsoft on Thursday announced it has completed the migration of Hotmail to Outlook.com. The company says the service now has 400 million active accounts as a result, including 125 million that are accessing email, calendar and contacts on a mobile device using Exchange ActiveSync.

For the sake of comparison, Microsoft said Outlook.com passed 60 million users in February. That was before it started the forced move from Hotmail to the new service.

Now that Microsoft has completed moving all its Hotmail users to Outlook.com, the company is sharing what’s next for the service. The company has rolled out two new features to Outlook.com: SMTP send, so it’s easier to send mail from different email addresses, and deeper integration with SkyDrive.

More to follow.
