The Bonobo and the Atheist

While many of us are aware that our sense of morality evolved over millions of years there is still a substantial number of people, mainly religious, who believe that to be untrue, and that a god must have given mankind morals as animals have none.

The Bonobo and the Athiest is a book by Frans De Waal which provides compelling evidence in support of morality having a bottom-up explanation rather than being imposed from above. Rather than go to the lengths of detailing it in this thread here is a good review which details the history of answers to the question of where it comes from and what the latest evidence indicates.

I'd be interested to hear from theists who hold the belief that animals don't have morals and humans are "special" in having them as god given.

As always any other thoughts on the subject welcome.
